COLOUR IMAGING WITH THE 1004x JG

THE FILTER HOLDER

Even if I could justify the cost of a commercial filter wheel, I do not have enough back focus for this and a flip mirror so I built the filter holder into the flip mirror.

I made a new side for the mirror with a slot in it to take the filters.

The filters, being plastic are easily cut by scoring with a knife and snapping cleanly. I made tham 30mm square.

They are mounted in cardboard mounts which are a friction fit into the slot in the front of the flip mirror. They stay in place OK at the moment but I plan to make the mounts out of something more durable and arrange a spring to hold them in place in the future.

The eyepiece has a machined ring underneath it to make it parfocal with the camera. This means I can get the camera focus very close by using the eyepiece. Because the filter is in front of the eyepiece, the focus shift due to the filter is also seen in the eyepiece and can be adjusted for.
