SUPERNOVA sn2004et IN NGC6946

30th Sept 2004

VC200L at f6.3 + 1004x-JG camera 29x15sec

 VC200L at f7 + 1004x-JG camera + 100 l/min grating 41x 20sec

The spectrum of this mag 12.8 object is rather noisy due to inerference from moonlight and thin cloud. There is some evidence of a hydrogen alpha emmision line which confirms this as a type II supernova

8th Oct 2004

VC200L at f7 + 1004x-JG camera + red and IR blocking filter + 100 l/min grating 35 x 40sec

On 8th October 2004 a confirmation spectrum of the region around the H alpha wavelength was obtained. A combination of red and IR block filters was used to increase the signal to noise relative to the sky background. The graph is approximately corrected for the response of the filter/CCD combination. A broad H alpha emission line is clearly seen
