SPECTROSCOPY

MEASURING INSTRUMENT SPECTRAL RESPONSE

(Note this is a crude measurement I used early in my spectroscopy. See here for how to correct for instrument and atmospheric effects for research quality spectra)

The relative spectral response of the system was measured using two stars of significantly different spectral class as a reference.

The measured and library spectra were smoothed to remove narrow absorption features and telluric lines and the measured spectrum divided by the library spectrum (from Visual Spec) to produce the response curve. (The Arcturus library spectrum is a mean of K1iii and K2iii spectra)

The two curves are similar, so a mean of the two will be used to correct future spectra for instrument response.
